Artist Statement

I aim to make paintings that feel new and fresh each time and therefore I'm less concerned with style and more interested in process and what paint can do.  I think of my paintings as ambiguous worlds  -parallel spaces, which evolve as if from nowhere even if I try to start with a specific idea. Generally my works are small and intimate and represent some kind of conversation between me, the forms, the space and, of course, the paint. I have no specific subject matter unless looking at the shapes of things, the negative spaces created by shapes and the way forms sit in space can be considered subject matter .  I also make drawings, specifically collage and, more recently, mixed media constructions, in order to explore these concerns.
